Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. She relocated to Oxfordshire in the year she turned five years old and attended an academy called the Dragon School. Emma's dream was to become an actor. When she was six, she joined the Oxford Stagecoach Theatre Arts branch in which she was taught classes in acting, singing and dancing. As part of a school production and an Stagecoach Production, Emma took her role as lead actress at 10 and performed. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 film adaptation from J.K. Rowling's bestselling British book was released in 1999. Agents for casting found Emma via her Oxford theatre instructor. After eight consistent auditions director David Heyman told Emma and co-applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been cast as the three main characters Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's screen debut was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's release in the year 2001. It was the year's top grossing film, breaking records during the opening day and the very first weekend. The film was praised by critics and its performances by the three leading actors of the young generation. The Daily Telegraph, an influential British paper, called Emma's acting "amazing". In the following days, Emma was nominated for five awards for her performance in the film and was awarded the Young Artist Award for Leading Actress Young in a Feature Film.
